Midland Heart celebrates sustainability accreditation
Midland Heart has been recognised for the quality of their homes at the prestigious SHIFT Awards in front of 230 housing professionals in a ceremony presented by Marcus Brigstocke with a keynote speech by Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy Mayor Environment and Energy.
Across 12 categories and 2 dragons’ den pitches, this year’s event received an outstanding response from across the sector, demonstrating that the drive to improve environmental performance is still going strong. SHIFT landlords took home 9 of the 14 awards open to the housing sector including developers, contractors, architects and consultants.
At the ceremony, 43 SHIFT landlords also received their SHIFT accreditation standard in which a record number of “gold” landlords was announced. As a group, SHIFT landlords outperform the rest of the sector on measures such as the energy efficiency of homes – meaning lower emissions, warmer homes and more affordable energy bills for residents.
Accredited organisations measure their impacts and compare how are doing against others using the SHIFT framework, with recommendations provided on the best routes to improve. Following 2016 sustainability assessment Midland Heart has SHIFT Gold demonstrating its commitment and progress in improving homes and reducing impacts.
Michael Bevan Wood, Environmental Strategy Manager at Midland Heart said: ‘We are really proud to have received Gold status following on from our previous success of being awarded bronze and then silver status. This accreditation is a reflection of all of the hard work and effort that has gone into implementing our environmental and sustainability strategy.’
Bevan Jones, managing director of Sustainable Homes said: “It’s brilliant to celebrate the success of SHIFT landlords and to announce their accreditation at the SHIFT Awards in front of such outstanding audience. These organisations know that sustainability has to make business sense and they are working extremely hard to deliver warmer and affordable homes whilst operating lean and resilient businesses.”
