Midland Heart has been recognised as a top cycle location at the Smarter Network Smarter Choices (SNSC) Achievement Awards.

The awards scheme, a partnership between Birmingham City Council, public transport co-ordinator Centro, Sustrans and bike experts BikeRight! recognise organisations that have engaged with and contributed to the SNSC programme's work to promote active travel habits and encourage people to cut down on car use.

A bronze award was given to Midland Heart for making it easier for staff to travel on bike by providing facilities such as secure cycle racks and shower rooms and also offering loan equipment such as tools and safety gear.

Councillor Judith Rowley, Chair of the Smart Networks Smarter Choices Board and lead for fair and safe transport on the West Midlands Transport Delivery Committee, said:  “We know congestion costs this region billions of pounds every year in wasted time and fuel and that reducing it is key to keeping our economy moving.

“Cycling is a great alternative to driving – both in terms of traffic congestion and health and fitness benefits – so we are delighted to present these awards in recognition of  organisations which are going the extra mile to help their people travel by bike."

Midland Heart received the bronze award for helping staff to become more active through cycling to work by making their offices more cycle-friendly.

Delysia Hart, Facilities Officer at Midland Heart said “We are proud to support the Birmingham Cycle Revolution which is an initiative set up by Birmingham City Council with the aim of increasing the number of trips in the city being made by cycles with the aim of helping to make our city greener, safer and less congested."

Birmingham City Council’s Cycle Revolution aims to boost the number of cyclists in the city by providing improved infrastructure and facilities to make it easier for residents to travel by pedal power.
