Walking the Wall for Dementia
As part of Midland Heart’s on-going commitment to support both carers and individuals living with dementia, a couple of intrepid colleagues will be walking the Great Wall of China, fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Launching their fundraising efforts as part of Dementia week, Lydia Bailey and Simi Chopra have been busy stretching their legs and are already a third of the way to their £6000 target.
Head of Healthcare, Lydia Bailey said: “Dementia affects many of our customers and we are keenly aware there is always more that can be done to help. Walking the Wall is a personal challenge, but it also demonstrates Midland Hearts commitment in releasing us to take on this challenge. We want to help raise awareness of dementia and ensure the right support is always available so anyone affected by dementia can live a positive, fulfilling life.”
Marketing and Communications Project Manager, Simi Chopra said: “This is one of the biggest challenges either of us has ever taken on. In our professional and personal lives, we are both really passionate about improving services for people living with dementia and the people in their lives who are affected too.”
Midland Heart provides housing and care services to more than 4,500 customers over 65 and with an ageing population recognise that an increasing number of current and future customers may at some point live with dementia. We also help support a significant number of our staff coping with family members living with dementia.
As a member of the Dementia Action Alliance, Midland Heart already supports Dementia by helping to improve knowledge, raise awareness and helping customers affected to live well.
Putting words into action has recently been demonstrated at Lime Gardens, a specially designed scheme for over 55s in Dudley. Adaptive technology has been used through the building, along with dementia friendly signage, colour scheme and comprehensive training for all our staff.
Simi and Lydia set off for their eight day challenge to China later in the year.
