Joining forces to support rough sleepers in Birmingham

Contractors Christmas 2016


Over 200 gift packs containing essential items have been donated to support rough sleepers in Birmingham, thanks to the kind hearted staff and contractors at Midland Heart.

Mitie, Mears Group, J Tomlinson, Ian Williams, Lovell, Niyaa People and Close Circuit Security Services were among the list of contractors who gave donations to the Birmingham Homeless Gift Appeal organised by Birmingham based housing organisation, Midland Heart.

“We have been completely overwhelmed by the wonderful support we have received from both our staff and contractors. We put out a call for a list of essential items that would help rough sleepers to feel a little more comfortable on their first night indoors and the response was fantastic.

Boardroom“By joining forces we were able to collect enough items to make up over 200 gift packs that really will make a difference to those accessing accommodation and support this winter.” Amanda Nicklin, Homeless Services Manager, Midland Heart.

Mike Turner, Development Director at Ian Williams comments: “This is a great cause and one we’re very proud to be involved in. In our everyday work we come into contact with people who need extra support and contributing to the Homeless Gift Appeal is a direct way in which we can make a practical difference - something that’s especially important at this time of year.”

The team were also supported by partners in the city, Birmingham Community Health Care Foundation Trust – Community Dental Service, local charity Socks and Chocs and HMRC in Birmingham to provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, socks, hats and a range of other items for the gift bags.

Kyle Scott, National Business Development Manager, Mitie said “The success of our combined efforts has generated a helping hand to the people of the West Midlands who need it the most. I am pleased that as a group of companies we are all able to pull together and resource such helpful contributions for this very worthwhile cause.”

The gifts were packed at the Midland Heart head office in Birmingham on StaffMonday 12th December and will be distributed to those accessing accommodation through the cold winter months.

Our partnerships means we always want to assist above and beyond. The team here were proud to assist for the afternoon and provided essential items to a wonderful and important cause”
