Mural celebrates Tigers winning spirit

Leicester MuralA Midland Heart wall in Leicester has been brightened up with a new lease of life thanks to a mural celebrating hero’s of local rugby club Leicester Tigers.

The artwork is a result of partnership working between Leicester City Council, Midland Heart, Rotary Club of Leicester Novus and students from De Montfort University (DMU).

Ward councillor Elly Cutkelvin noticed that the corner of Walnut Street opposite Leicester Tigers Welford Road ground would benefit from a face list and instigated the makeover.

The mural is the latest in in Leicester commissioned by Leicester City Council. Featuring the legendary Tigers, England and Lions captain Martin Johnson and current England centre Manu Tuilagi, the mural marks Leicester City's triumph lifting the Premier League trophy last season.

The project was made possible thanks to Rotary Club volunteers and the students from DMU, who kick-started the project by creating a blank canvas, Midland Heart who rendered the wall and the support of the Leicester Tigers to help create a striking new landmark on the Walnut Street site.

The mural took artist Leigh Drummond more than a week to create, replacing a 20 year old jungle scene that was beyond repair.
