New Coventry homes take a big step closer to reality
The transformation of a former industrial site has taken a big step closer to reality with project leaders coming together to mark the completion of the first show homes in Coventry.
Phase one of the Burnaby Gardens development off Burnaby Road in Holbrooks is due for completion in Autumn 2014 and will see 31 two and three bedroom properties available for shared ownership.
Carl Larter, Director of Assets, said: "We are delighted to bring this much needed, affordable housing to the area as well as creating the opportunity for shared ownership in the region for a long time.
"This has really brought this former derelict site back to life as it begins a new chapter providing essential housing."
Ian Jones, Business Development Director at Westleigh, said: "These show homes will provide visitors with a great insight into what it will be like to live in one of the brand new affordable homes.
"The development is a great example of our ability to put brownfield sites back to good use for the benefit of the community and we are delighted to be working with Midland Heart and partners to carry out this important project."
Once complete the £11.2 million the development will comprise of 94 homes in a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties.
Councillor Maton, Coventry Council's cabinet member for housing and heritage, said: "Prior to Midland Heart redeveloping the site it has been used for a wide range of purposes which include the old Dunlop Works, and range from an upholstery works, timber works and an engineering company.
Work on site will be completed in phases, with site completion due in Spring 2015.
