Saltbrook Place celebrates first birthday

Saltbrook Place First Anniversary WebOur award winning supported housing scheme for Dudley's vulnerable adults and homeless has celebrated its first anniversary.

To mark the first anniversary customers and partners got together to have a celebration event complete with birthday cake and were presented with the annual review of their first year and plans for the future.

The scheme is a successful partnership between Midland Heart, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency, offering its residents structured support and accommodation with an extensive range of facilities enabling them to make the transition to a settled home.

In addition to providing much needed accommodation, customers have access to an IT suite, training kitchens and allotments, as well as mainstream health services, various specialist agencies and local colleges. The building also houses extensive facilities for the wider neighbourhood, which include meeting rooms, catering and gymnasium/ exercise facilities, and the opportunity to get involved with gardening as part of an allotment scheme.

Raj Shroff, Director of Support Services at Midland Heart said: “Saltbrook Place is a stepping stone on our customer’s journey to reintegrate with the local community. By providing our customers with vital life skills, and instilling a sense of confidence and achievement we are helping to break the cycle of homelessness.

"We are incredibly proud of the great work that has been achieved at Saltbrook Place within the last 12 months and the difference it has made to so many lives.”

Councillor Gaye Partridge, cabinet member for housing, said: “In Dudley, over recent years the number of people without an actual roof over their head has been reducing. We believe this is due to our early intervention approach.

“However, schemes like Saltbrook Place help prevent rough sleeping and provide a valuable service to people who need it most, by offering support in a range of ways to help people into a settled home. I’m delighted to see the facility going from strength to strength in its first year.”

Since the scheme opened it has been at full occupancy and has supported 158 residents through the service within its first year.
