Regeneration

Ley Hill, Northfield

Regeneration at Midland Heart is all about transforming neighbourhoods into sustainable communities. This can be physically through improving buildings and the surroundings, or economically and socially through working with local people so they have the confidence and skills they need to be proud of where they live.

For example Ley Hill in Northfield, Birmingham was an area blighted by anti-social behaviour and many residents wished they lived elsewhere.

After extensive consultation with residents and other stakeholders we demolished the outdated Council properties and replaced them with a range of brand new homes. Some of the homes were for rent, some for shared ownership and some for outright sale meaning a mixture of people could move to the area. Residents were involved throughout the planning phase and helped decide how the estate would look and feel.

Since building the new homes we have been working with the community to make sure the future of the area is sustainable. A residents association has been set up to run the community centre, Holloway Hall. Training has been given to local people providing them with a range of skills from assertiveness to problem solving. There continue to be many opportunities for customers to get involved in shaping our services and our engagement extends to attending events at the local school where we can talk to our customers on a local, friendly, level.

By including our customers throughout the process of redevelopment at Ley Hill and inspiring them to get involved in making decisions about their community we are sure Ley Hill will continue to be a sustainable and desirable place to live.
