Double birthday celebrations for Gwen and her scheme
Double birthday celebrations have got underway at one of our Birmingham housing schemes as it raises the roof to celebrate its 30th anniversary and the birthday of its very first resident.
One of the first residents to move in was Gwen, who celebrated her 95th at the scheme earlier this month and whilst people have come and gone, the scheme is still the same as it was in 1987 as Gwen explains: “I was one of the first people to move into Grosvenor Court so I had the pick of the properties and I would not live anywhere else.
“Grosvenor Court is such a friendly place to live and in the 30 years I have been here, I can honestly say that I not met one person I did not like.
"There is plenty to do, we have bingo, coffee mornings and a ‘Knit ‘n’ Natter’ group and although I don’t get as involved as I used to, there is always someone to talk to.
“For my birthday, they arranged a party where friends and family could drop in for a chat and I had a lovely time,” says Gwen.
Grosvenor Court is built on the former Kings Norton cinema site, Grosvenor Court which closed in 1983.
Richard Taylor, Grosvenor Court’s scheme manager said: “Grosvenor Court has such a rich history and many people who move here are from the local area.”
