Supporting Silver Sunday

Our Retirement Living services are supporting Silver Sunday by having activities and events throughout October.

Silver Sunday was launched in 2012 to celebrate older people and recognise the contributions they make to society. It’s also about doing practical things that make a difference, like having a cuppa with an elderly neighbour or helping them get out and about.

Did you know...

  • The number of over-50s experiencing loneliness has increased by 49% in the last 10 years and is set to reach 2 million by 2025/6?

  • There are over 2.2 million people aged 75 and over living alone in Great Britain, an increase of almost a quarter over the past 20 years?

  • Two fifths all older people (about 3.9 million) say the television is their main company?

Wayne Exton, our Lifestyle Change Manager, said: “Two of the biggest reasons people tell me they move into our retirement services is because they want to feel safe or because they don’t want to be alone.

We want to make our residents feel that they are part of a supportive community – not just where they live but also part of their wider community. It’s not just about loneliness though; we want to celebrate the achievements of our residents and share stories that challenge stereotypes of older people.”
