We're Making a Stand
We’re proud to Make a Stand and be part of a national campaign to provide support for people experiencing domestic abuse.
The housing sector provides homes for people across the UK and is uniquely placed to recognise and respond to domestic abuse – and help find solutions through collaborative work with local authorities and specialist support agencies.
Vicki Brownhill, Head of Housing Management, said: “Domestic abuse is a significant issue in society today and, tragically, two women are killed every week by their partner or former partner. Yet we also know many incidents go unreported and aren’t officially recorded; studies suggest millions of adults and children are affected by domestic abuse each year.
“We take the safety and welfare of our customers and our staff extremely seriously and were keen to sign up to Make a Stand which not only highlights what is often a hidden problem, but encourages the housing sector to take practical steps to support those experiencing domestic abuse.
“We have pledged to meet the campaign’s four commitments which are to have policies to support customers and staff who experience domestic abuse, have a champion at senior level responsible for driving our actions and make sure information about national and local support services is on our website where it can be easily accessed.”
Make a Stand was developed by the Chartered Institute of Housing in partnership with Women’s Aid and the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance and more than 400 housing organisations nationwide have so far pledged their commitment.
