Westleigh partnership provides new homes in Warwickshire
Our £6m housing development in Keresley End has been completed bringing much needed new affordable homes to the borough of Nuneaton and Bedworth.
The development, on Grove Lane, was built on the site of a former disused playing field thanks to a partnership between Midland Heart, developer Westleigh, and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.
In total, 52 two and three bedroom homes, apartments and bungalows have been built, with 41 for affordable rent and 11 for shared ownership.
The homes on this site have proved very popular with only one shared ownership home still available to purchase - a three bedroomed house, from £61,250 for a 35% share.
The scheme was funded through the Homes and the Communities Agency Affordable Housing Programme with further investment provided by Midland Heart.
The development, which took just over a year to complete, will help to tackle the current housing crisis in the surrounding area. According to new government figures, released in December the population in the nearby city of Coventry has risen four times faster than the rate of new housing over the last decade. As a result there is a current lack of homes available for families in the city at prices residents can afford.
Gino Siani, Head of New Business for the West Midlands at Westleigh, commented, “There is a real housing need in the area especially for families and we pleased to be able to go some way to helping ease demand by providing high quality new homes at affordable prices thanks to our great partnership with Midland Heart and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.”
Carl Larter, Director of Assets at Midland Heart, said, “This is the second development that Midland Heart has built in the area and the reception from the local community has been fantastic. We are pleased that our partnership with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Westleigh has provided an opportunity for people to have an affordable home in an area where housing is in high demand”.
Councillor Julie Jackson, portfolio holder for Housing, at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC) commented, “NBBC has welcomed working in partnership with Midland Heart to help meet the housing needs of residents of the Borough. The provision of much needed affordable homes is a key priority for the Council and Midland Heart have contributed significantly towards meeting those needs over the past few years, not only here in Keresley but in Nuneaton too. We look forward to continuing to support the delivery of affordable housing through ongoing partnerships with housing associations like Midland Heart to benefit the residents of our Borough.”
