£2.5m Nuneaton housing scheme open for business
Our £2.5million affordable housing scheme in Nuneaton has officially opened for business six months early, providing essential homes to local residents looking to get onto the housing ladder.
Part of the Church Fields, Weddington Road housing development on the outskirts of the town, the new homes have been funded by us and built in partnership with Davidsons Homes.
Consisting of 31 properties, potential residents have a choice of 13, one-bed apartments or six, three-bed affordable homes. There are also 12, three-bed homes available under shared-ownership.
Work on site started in August 2016 with Phase 2 due for completion December 2017, however all properties have been built six months ahead of schedule.
To mark the site’s official opening, Councillor Dennis Harvey – leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Council -took a tour of the new showhome and surrounding facilities.
Speaking of the new development, Councillor Dennis Harvey, says: “Both Nuneaton and Bedworth need new affordable homes to help meet the shortage of homes available to local residents.
“Part of the Nuneaton and Bedworth Local Housing Plan, the homes have been built to an exceptionally high standard and I am delighted with the quality and speed of build.”
The 31 affordable homes form part of a wider development scheme, consisting of over 400 properties available for private sale.
However, the need for new affordable homes in Nuneaton is high with demand far outstripping supply as Joe Reeves, executive director of growth and corporate affairs, explains: “Weddington Road has been a huge success with all of the affordable homes allocated and only have a handful of properties available on shared-ownership still available.
“This is a growing trend across all towns and cities and for every home we sell or rent, there are still thousands more prospective home owners waiting for a property.
“Last year Midland Heart changed its focus to concentrate on developing additional new homes, committing to build over 2,000 properties over the next five years to help alleviate that demand and Weddington Road is a great start built to budget and six months ahead of schedule.”
