£8.2m housing scheme set to transform site of former Birmingham school

Sheldon Hall Avenue

An £8.2m housing scheme in Birmingham is set to transform the site of a former international school bringing high-quality affordable homes to the Shard End area of the city.

Situated on Sheldon Hall Avenue the scheme will provide 64 new two, three and four bedroom homes for affordable rent and purchase through shared ownership.

The scheme is being developed by Midland Heart in partnership with developer Westleigh Homes and Birmingham City Council, with £1.86m funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.

Chris Miller, Director of Development at Midland Heart said: ‘We are delighted to be breathing new life into a site that had fallen out of use. This scheme is bringing much needed affordable homes to the area and forms part of Midland Hearts commitment to build over 2000 affordable homes in the next 5 years.’

The area offers excellent transport links to the M6 & M42 with Birmingham International Airport and the NEC in close proximity.

Gino Siani, Westleigh’s Head of New Business for the West Midlands, said: “This in an exciting project for us, and we are proud to be expanding on our well established working partnership with Midland Heart to provide these vitally important affordable homes.

“This scheme will also allow us to regenerate a disused site, giving it a new lease of life. We are proud to be working on projects like this across the West Midlands to tackle the shortage of affordable housing and build stronger communities.”

Work is currently underway to clear the site with building works expected to begin in July. The development is set for completion in Winter 2018.
