Leicester MP visits new constituency housing development
Leicester MP Keith Vaz has visited the site of a new housing development in his constituency, which will bring new affordable homes close to the city centre.
The Leicester East MP met with Midland Heart development director, Chris Miller, for an exclusive tour of the site, and to see first-hand how the project will transform the area.
Developed in partnership with Westleigh Homes, the project will bring 82 much-needed high quality homes - 49 for affordable rent and 33 for shared ownership – to the former industrial site on Green Lane Road.
Keith Vaz MP said: “Leicester, like most other cities in this country, desperately needs quality homes for rent, at prices local people can afford. The new housing development will bring hope and high quality housing for a mixture of families and single people, in the very heart of our community.
“I am also extremely pleased to see a disused industrial site close to the city centre and all its amenities and transport links being reclaimed in such a positive way.”
There has been significant progress on site in recent weeks with foundations for most of the properties, and the wider road infrastructure and drainage now installed.
Chris Miller, said: “The Green Lane Road development is part of a joint venture partnership that will bring 395 new homes across a variety of tenures to the region.
“We are delighted with the progress to date and the feedback we have received from local stakeholders who understand the pressures of providing new, affordable homes to the area.”
First handovers are now due in spring 2018.
