Schemes get a ‘Mitie’ makeover

Zambesi RefurbTwo supported housing schemes in the heart of the Midlands have received a ‘Mitie’ makeover as part of the company’s contractual commitment to provide volunteers to support local community projects.

Working in partnership with Midland Heart, Mitie’s decorators brushed up on their painting skills by completely transforming communal areas at each scheme in just 10 days.

Both Zambesi in Birmingham, which provides short-term accommodation for individuals who require emergency housing, and Bushbury Lane in Wolverhampton which supports adults who have complex mental health needs, both underwent a colourful transformation.

Fully funded by Mitie, the contractor also worked with Crown Paints who through its ‘Social Enterprise Solution’ donated the specialist ‘o’ paint required to meet fire safety regulations.

As part of the project, Mitie’s volunteers also prepped the walls, treated areas of damp, and replastered where necessary.

Paulina Colomby, Operations Manager at Midland Heart, says: “We have been working with Mitie for a number of years and they are completely committed to the social value aspect of our contract.

“The look and feel of both services has been completely transformed and the feedback has been fantastic.  The volunteers were professional and mindful of our customers’ needs and we are delighted with the outcome.”

The facilities management company has estimated that the ‘Mitie makeover’ cost around £15,000 to deliver at both schemes, but the outcome far outweighs the cost.

“Working within schemes such Bushbury Lane and Zambesi enables our employees to give back to the community and experience first-hand the difference they can make in just a matter of days,” says Matt Hickman, West Midlands Regional Manager at Mitie.

“The customers have been involved in choosing the main colour schemes and Crown Paints have been very supportive of the project.

“It’s amazing what can be achieved when motivation is high and our employees really enjoy working within the schemes and getting to know Midland Heart’s customers.”
