Executive director makes ‘Most Influential’ HR practitioners list for 2018
Midland Heart’s executive director of HR and Learning has scored a hat-trick after being named one of the Most Influential HR Practitioners in the country – for the third year running.
Baljinder Kang, who joined the housing association in 2014, was placed number 31 overall in HR magazine’s 2018 Most Influential rankings, which recognise practitioners and thinkers pushing people strategy forward.
A fellow of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD), Baljinder earned promotion to Midland Heart’s executive board in May. She is the sole HR practitioner from a housing association named in the top 40 overall listing.
She said: “This is the third consecutive year I have been named in the category for the not-for-profit sector and I’m thrilled to have been honoured yet again but especially so to be in this year’s list of overall Most Influential HR practitioners.
“I could not have achieved this without the fantastically committed and hardworking HR and Learning team I have behind me, or the support I receive from the board.”
The top list of 40 are predominantly from big household name companies including the BBC, Virgin Money, Sky, Unilever, Pizza Hut, Direct Line, Whitbread, Halfords and Aviva. Almost 63 per cent of those making the top 40 are female.
The other HR directors on the Most Influential list in the not-for-profit category are from Citizen’s Advice, Zoological Society of London, Historic Royal Palaces, St Mungo’s, British Heart Foundation, The Prince’s Trust and United Learning.
Baljinder has more than 25 years of operational and strategic HR experience across the private, public, voluntary and not-for-profit sectors. When she joined Midland Heart she was tasked with transforming the HR function and since then has led her team to win the 2017 CIPD award for Best Reward initiative.
This year they are in the running to scoop the prestigious Team of the Year trophy, whilst the payroll team is up for the CIPP In-House Payroll Team of the Year.
