Finance team adds to achievement tally

West Midlands Finance Award, Not for Profit Finance Team of the Year

Finance staff at Midland Heart are adding to the leading housing association’s recent tally of achievements after being shortlisted for an award of their own.

The team is up for the Not for Profit Team of the Year in the 2018 West Midlands Finance Awards.

The organisers say “an astounding number of applicants” were received for each category of the awards this year demonstrating “an exceptionally high quality of talent.” The judging panel has already commended all organisations, which includes big household names such as Halfords, McDonalds, Big Lottery Fund and Tarmac, that have made the final shortlist for awards.

Joe Reeves, Executive Director of Growth & Corporate Affairs and interim Executive Director of Resources, Midland Heart, said: “We’re delighted our finance team has been shortlisted for an award against fierce competition as it is true testament to the hard work and commitment of our finance team in developing and delivering our corporate plan, Fit for the Future.

“This five-year plan for 2016-2020 was driven by our need to make £41m worth of savings to ensure we were able to remain financially strong.

“The second year of that plan saw Midland Heart go from strength to strength - with a turnover of £195.3m, we banked £13m a year of value for money savings, around £1m of ‘in year’ efficiencies and a record operating surplus of £47.7m.

“In addition we achieved the highest levels of staff engagement for five years and some of the highest levels of customer satisfaction ever recorded.”

The award winners will be announced at a prestigious ceremony at the ICC, Birmingham on November 15.

This latest success adds to Midland Heart’s record of achievement for this year. Other notable successes include being shortlisted for HR Team of the Year in the 2018 CIPD Awards and Executive Director of HR & Learning, Baljinder Kang being named one of the ‘Most Influential’ PR practitioners in the country.

The payroll team has also been shortlisted for Team of the Year in the CIPP annual awards due to be announced on October 11.
