Since 2014 Midland Heart’s research and data insight team has visualised this information to offer a free and user-friendly online tool allowing anyone to access and easily interrogate the data.
New data released by the Regulator of Social Housing shows that in 2017/18, registered providers reported owning a total of 2.8 million homes across England, an increase of 1.1 per cent on the previous year.
The figure has emerged from the annual Statistical Data Return release; a collation of all survey returns from housing providers in England.
The tool provides a comprehensive picture of the type and distribution of social housing across England, as well as acquisitions and sales within the year.
James Jervis, research and data insight manager at Midland Heart, said: “Users can highlight specific providers, and understand better the type of tenure and the location of their properties, as well as their activity within the year relating to new builds and other types of acquisitions.”
The release shows that more than a quarter of a million homes in England changed hands during 2017/18, the largest number of transfers ever recorded.
This large volume of transfer activity has mostly been driven by providers modifying their group structures through mergers or restructuring.
