Professor Richard Farnell, the former chair of Midland Heart, has passed away aged 71.

1Professor Farnell, who passed away after a battle with cancer, was the founding chair when Midland Heart was established in 2006. In his academic life, Richard was a professor of neighborhood regeneration at Coventry University, where he taught urban studies and town planning.

Our current chair, John Edwards, paid tribute: “On behalf of everyone at Midland Heart I want to express our sadness at the loss of our first chairman, Professor Richard Farnell.  Our thoughts are with Richard’s family and friends at this difficult time.

2“Richard is remembered with great fondness by those who knew him at Midland Heart as a man of principle, who dedicated his life to championing the value of housing associations and making our communities an even better place to live.  He made an enormous contribution to the housing sector and will be greatly missed.”

A thanksgiving Service for Richard’s life is taking place at Coventry Cathedral on Sunday 21 October at 4pm.
