Age UK Coventry & Warwickshire to launch new friendship group at Bevan Court

One of our supported living schemes is launching a new initiative in conjunction with their local Age UK next month to help combat loneliness and social isolation.

Bevan Court at Cheylesmore will be regularly hosting Age UK Coventry & Warwickshire’s newest friendship group aimed both at our residents and those living in the local community.

Gemma Morrison, Activities Co-ordinator at Bevan Court, said: “We are delighted that our local Age UK will be using Bevan Court for their latest friendship group. We work hard to engage with, and provide activities for, our own residents but are also keen to engage with older people living in the local community who may be lonely or experiencing social isolation.

“We have already invited local people to drop into one of our daily coffee mornings and hope that the new group will bring many more to Bevan Court,” added Gemma, who is also an Age UK Coventry & Warwickshire volunteer.

“The group will provide the opportunity to chat over coffee, make new friends or catch up with ones living at Bevan Court, take part in an activity and the option to buy a hot two course lunch in our restaurant.”

Ramona Barreto, Friendship Officer for Age UK Coventry & Warwickshire said: “Age UK is keen to address the issue of isolation and improve the wellbeing of people in society. We run regular friendship groups in local community venues including church halls and libraries. Some are specialist in nature and cater for specific groups of people as detailed on our website.

"We are pleased to be able to add Bevan Court to our list of locations; it's an attractive venue with a range of facilities and the local community may benefit from its social activities."

The friendship group launches on Tuesday, July 2, at Bevan Court on Montalt Road, Cheylesmore, CV3 5JB, and will be held every Tuesday from 11am to 1.30pm on a drop-in basis. The group is open to anyone aged 50 plus.

Tea and coffee will be served on arrival and an activity or entertainment provided. A hot two course lunch, which is pre-bookable and priced at £5, is available at 12.30pm. To book lunch please call Bevan Court on 02476 502144.

The launch activity will be an optional craft session run by Activate, which is also participating in the Big Bevan Garden Party on Saturday, July 13 and which is open to the public.
