Development team in the running for national award

Our development team has been shortlisted for the coveted “team of the year” accolade at the 2019 Inside Housing Development Awards.

These annual awards celebrate the best UK residential development projects over the past 12 months, and the teams who make them happen.

Our team has been shortlisted after a hugely successful year, smashing their 2018/19 development target by completing and handing over 450 new affordable homes for rent and shared ownership.

A Midland Heart Development Team meetingAnd this year they have already cemented two important partnerships – with developers Countryside Partnerships plc and Partner Construction – which will help achieve our ambitious new target of 3,000 new homes by 2024.

Chris Miller, Director for Development, said: “I’m extremely proud of the team and delighted that we’ve been shortlisted for Team of the Year, recognising the hard work everyone has put in to increase our numbers and deliver much-needed new affordable homes across the Midlands.

“The team has grown our programme from 147 new homes in 2016/17, to a forecast of 555 for this year and a forward pipeline of nearly 1,000, without compromising on quality.

“But it’s not just about numbers – we’ve been working tremendously hard to get developers such as Countryside and Partner excited about affordable homes, and we’ve developed a reputation around the construction industry as a team to do business with.”

Some of the team’s recent achievements include a £14.4million development of exclusively family houses in Green Lane Road, Leicester, 95 new homes on a former council depot site in Nuneaton, and the landmark regeneration of the former Wolsey hosiery factory in Leicester, which was praised by City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby as an “important scheme” which has been a “catalyst” for other developers to join in regenerating the wider area.

The finals will be held in London on 27 November, when the team will find out if they’ve won the title amid strong competition from seven other large housing associations.
