Getting to grips with Easter activities
An Easter bonnet parade, an egg hunt and getting to grips with a host of weird and wonderful creatures were on the menu for older residents and school pupils at Berryhill, Stoke-on-Trent.
Thanks to a grant from local councillor Rita Dale, residents at Berryhill Village and pupils from The Discovery Academy high school and Eaton Park Academy primary school enjoyed an Easter fun day ahead of this weekend’s celebrations.
The best bonnets were scrutinised by a panel of guest judges including Cllr Dale, John Caulkin, chair of Eaton Park Residents' Association and Tesco’s local Community Champion, Sadie Haynes.
Residents then joined forces with the students to hunt out Easter eggs and later participated in an educational session hosted by Jungle Jo to meet and touch insects and reptiles, including snakes, spiders, stick insects and lizards.
Cllr Dale, councillor for Eaton Park, said: “I really enjoyed the afternoon and felt honoured to have been invited. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces from the school and the Village enjoying something together.”
Katie Underwood, activities facilitator at Berryhill Village, added: “We have established a very positive relationship with our local high school and primary school and the funding enabled us to invite the students to share our fun day.”
