Lifestyle programme up for national housing award
A new lifestyle programme in our retirement living schemes has been shortlisted in the prestigious UK Housing Awards 2020.
Midland Heart is one of nine finalists in the ‘best older people’s landlord’ category of the national awards, recognising the very best in the UK housing sector.
The winners of the 16 categories will be announced at a special awards ceremony in London on May 7.
Our lifestyle programme launched early 2019 across all our retirement living schemes. It aims to make our services inclusive and interesting while actively promoting health and wellbeing and supporting our customers to learn new skills and live independently.
The programme covers activities, projects and events to boost social inclusion, integration into local communities, health and wellbeing, and relationships with other organisations and groups including local schools and places of worship.
There have also been a range of creative and well received activities to raise awareness and recognise different groups and cultures such as LGBT+ and Black History Month and celebrations for Diwali and Chinese New Year.
Customers have been offered opportunities to learn new skills ranging from sign language to cookery and from laughter yoga to learning how to use an iPad or to Skype family and friends.
One of the key strands of the programme is around having a holistic approach to health and wellbeing and looking at older people’s health from different perspectives, including the effect of loneliness and isolation.
Wayne Exton, Lifestyle Change Manager, said: “Our customers are at the centre of our lifestyle programme and are encouraged to take the lead in growing their communities and making decisions about what their community needs to thrive.
“As a result of the programme our retirement living schemes have become more inclusive, welcoming and interesting places to live. Customer satisfaction with the programme achieved 89 per cent in 2019 and our goal for this year is 95 per cent.”
