During the hot weather, homes in the UK can quickly trap heat and become uncomfortable. Here are a few simple ways to keep yourself and your home cooler.

How to keep your home cool

  • Keep your blinds/curtains closed during the day
  • Use a fan to help circulate air
  • If you have leather sofas at home, try putting a lightweight throw on top so you feel more comfortable when sitting down
  • Use your extractor fans to get rid of some of the excess heat in your home

How to keep yourself cool

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Drink liquids that contain electrolytes to rehydrate yourself quicker
  • Eat lighter, colder and hydrating foods such as salads and fruit
  • Wear lightweight, baggy and breathable clothes 
  • Wear sunscreen and a hat outdoors
  • Change your duvet to a lightweight summer one
  • Have cool showers/baths
  • Use a water bottle spray to keep yourself cool
