When the weather warms up, few things cool you down like a refreshing ice lolly! Shop-bought options are convenient, but they can be high in sugar or contain ingredients you’d rather avoid.

Homemade ice lollies are simple to make, budget-friendly and a fun activity to do with children during the summer holidays. You only need a few ingredients, a blender and some lolly moulds to make these tasty recipes.

Creamy strawberry lollies

This one tastes like a treat but includes fruit and yoghurt, making it a great option for a sunny afternoon snack.

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Greek yoghurt
  • A drizzle of honey

Method:

Blend the strawberries, yoghurt and honey together until smooth. Pour into moulds and freeze until set. For a swirled effect, blend the strawberries separately and layer them with the yoghurt before freezing.

Tropical zing pops

If your children like fruity flavours, this bright and refreshing lolly is a delicious dairy-free choice.

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Mango chunks (fresh or frozen
  • Pineapple juice
  • A squeeze of fresh lime

Method:

Blend everything together until smooth, then pour into lolly moulds and freeze. The mango gives it natural sweetness, while the lime adds a citrusy zing!

Watermelon mint coolers

This light and refreshing recipe is a great option for when everyone needs something cool after playing outside.

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Cubed watermelon
  • A few fresh mint leaves
  • A splash of coconut water

Method:

Blend the watermelon, mint and coconut water until smooth. Pour into moulds and freeze. If the children aren’t sure about mint, use just one or two leaves to keep the flavour gentle.

Get the children involved

Homemade ice lollies are a great way to help children build confidence in the kitchen. They can wash the fruit, add ingredients to the blender with supervision and help pour the mixture into moulds.

The hardest part is waiting for them to freeze! If you make them first thing in the morning, they’ll be ready for later in the day.

An easy and simple summer snack

With just three ingredients, you can make delicious, fruity ice lollies, and even adjust the recipes to suit your family. Try different fruits, use what you already have at home and let children choose their favourite combinations.
