Our Tenancy Services Officer, Rishi, helped one of our tenants declutter their home and avoid legal action being taken against them.
The background
We were due to carry out a routine inspection of the tenant’s home but weren’t able to gain access because of the tenant’s hoarding. Their three-bedroom home had become extremely cluttered and was in a poor condition.
Hoarding is when you have so many things at home that you’re unable to manage the clutter and find it difficult or even impossible to throw things away, so it begins to grow and impact your day-to-day life. You can find more information about hoarding, here.
How we helped
Keeping you safe in your home is our top priority. Rishi spoke to the tenant, and they agreed for him to arrange for a skip to be delivered, so that the bulkier items could be thrown away safely. Other unwanted clutter was cleared away room-by-room, and once the house had been fully cleared, Rishi arranged for new flooring to be fitted in the living room. The tenant also bought some new furniture.
The outcome
Thanks to Rishi’s actions and the tenant’s cooperation, the tenant is now living in a safe and clutter-free home, and legal action is no longer needed.
