If you're ever worried about paying a bill, stretched your budget to make ends meet or felt anxious about money, you're not alone.
This Talk Money Week, we're encouraging our tenants to start the conversation. If you're worried about money, we can support you with our free Money Advice service.
Talk Money Week is a national campaign encouraging people to have conversations about their finances. Many of us tend to wait until a crisis hits to take any action, but we want to help you to feel more in control and more confident in reaching out for support and starting the conversation early.
We know that managing money isn't always easy. The rising cost of living can make budgeting difficult, which is why getting support early can make a real difference.
One simple way to start is by looking at what comes in and what goes out each month. This can help you spot spending habits, find any unnecessary costs and understand where your money is going.
Some people find the 50-30-20 budgeting rule useful as a starting point.
- 50% for your needs – rent, bills, food and transport
- 30% for your wants – lifestyle choices, shopping or eating out
- 20% for your future – savings, paying off your debt or future goals
It's important to remember that everyone's situation is different and this rule won't suit every budget and that's ok.
If money worries are keeping you up at night, the first step is simply talking to someone. Whether it's a trusted friend, family member or a support service, sharing your concerns can help you feel less overwhelmed and more in control.
You can also give our team a call and we can refer you to our Money Advice service. Our Money Advisors offer free, confidential and one-to-one support to help you find the best way forward.
