Last year our Rangers attended over 5,000 incidents of fly-tipping on our premises.

These incidents included fly-tipped general waste and bulky waste items dumped by residents living in our properties. This illegally-dumped waste costs money to clear and has an affect on service charges.

An increase in fly-tipping and bulky waste collections leads to an increase in service charges which is something we want to prevent. We need you to work with us, so that we can tackle fly-tipping together.

We’ve put in measures that mean together we can prevent and remove illegal waste:

  • We work with your local council to make sure you have regular collections of your bins. You may have accessible bin stores or wheelie bins for your household waste.
  • We support you to recycle where available, so you have more space in your bins and can do your part to help the environment. For tips on recycling click here.
  • We make sure there is enough outside and inside lighting to deter fly-tipping and other forms of anti-social behaviour (ASB).
  • We encourage everyone to report incidents of fly-tipping by calling our Hub on 0345 60 20 540 or dropping us a private message on Facebook or Twitter. This way we can report incidents to the police and help clear up dumped waste on our premises.

We throw out enough fridges, freezers, washing machines and small electrical items like kettles and hair dryers each year in the UK to fill Wembley Stadium six times.

Do you have furniture or bulky waste to dispose of?

This includes items such as beds, wardrobes and sofas, as well as working electrical items like vacuum cleaners, microwaves and fridges.

How to dispose of your bulky items:

  • Donate to charities - why not contact your local furniture re-use project and donate your items instead of throwing them away. You can donate furniture and electrical items.
  • Use free local recycling centres - if you can’t donate your furniture or other items, you can recycle a wide range of different household objects including bulky and electrical items for free at local household waste recycling centres.
  • Call your local council - they may collect large bulky items including fridge freezers and other items for a small charge.
  • Exchange items when you buy a new product - some retailers will take away your old or broken items (for recycling) when you buy a new one from them at no additional cost.

Top tip: Buying A-rated energy efficient appliances are better for the environment and will help cut your energy bills. If you can afford to pay slightly more for better quality goods such as electrical items, they may last longer.
