It is ASB Awareness Week (29 June – 5 July) and we’ve partnered with community safety experts, Resolve, to raise awareness and make sure you know what to do if you’re experiencing antisocial behaviour (ASB).

What is antisocial behaviour (ASB)?

The law describes ASB as 'behaviour by a person which causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to persons not of the same household as the person'. It can include abusive, threatening or intimidating behaviour, drug dealing and drug use, constant, loud shouting and music, persistent dog barking, and pets damaging property.

What is ASB Awareness Week?

It’s a national campaign that takes place every year to raise awareness about antisocial behaviour and how to make our communities a safer place to live.

Experiencing antisocial behaviour can be very upsetting and can affect how safe you feel in your own home. New research by YouGov shows that ASB is both widespread and getting worse. The reports revealed that:

  • Nearly half of adults say ASB is a problem where they live
  • 41% believe ASB has increased in their area over the last three years
  • Most victims and witnesses do not report ASB, often because they believe nothing will be done or do not know how to report it.

How we're keeping you safe

Keeping you at heart: our five-year corporate plan

Making sure we’re keeping you at heart, tackling ASB is an important part of our five-year corporate plan, Tenants at Heart.

Our Tenancy Services team manage ASB cases, and in some areas, our tenants pay a service charge for CCTV, which is monitored by our own CCTV Hub. Other tenants pay a service charge for our mobile security and caretaking service, which also supports with tenancy enforcement action.

Over the next five years, we’re working hard to deliver landlord services that meet your needs and make a positive impact on your daily life and local neighbourhoods.

Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSM) feedback

In our latest TSM report, 67.1% of you were satisfied with how we handled ASB issues and 69.5% of you were satisfied with our positive contribution to neighbourhoods.

We want to make sure even more of our tenants and homeowners feel this way, so we’ve invested in a £1.8 million CCTV system upgrade, and have a dedicated ASB case management team in place to support tenants.

If you experience ASB, you’ll be assigned a dedicated Case Officer who will help you gather evidence, create action plans, and support you through this difficult time.

Partnerships & community events

We’re working closely with our partners to keep you safe, including local councils, the police, and organisations such as Resolve. Join us at our community events, as we come together to tackle ASB and make communities safer. Keep an eye on our dedicated community events page and Facebook for details about all upcoming events!
