The background

To roundup National Hoarding Awareness Week 2026, we look at how our Tenancy Services Officer, Rachel, worked with our Estates team to help a tenant with learning and mobility difficulties live safely in her home again.

When central heating issues were reported at the tenant’s home and we weren’t able to gain access due to her hoarding habits, Rachel stepped in to help.

How we helped

Rachel regularly visited and helped the tenant understand why it was important to declutter her home. With Rachel’s support, a four-day clear-out took place. This uncovered a severe rat infestation in the house that was quickly handled by our Estates team.

The outcome

Our tenant’s home is now clutter-free, and the heating is working again. The tenant is also on the waiting list to move to a new home that is more suited to her needs.
