We’re really pleased to introduce one of our newest My Voice groups… My Team!
This group provides a fantastic opportunity for you to work with our People Team (Resourcing, Learning and Development and Rewards Teams) to really make sure we are hiring and developing the best people, for you, our tenants.
What would I get involved in?
- Recruitment: Shaping assessments and interviews to make sure we ask the right questions, and even taking part in some of these activities. From April 2024 - March 2025, our tenants have supported with over 24 recruitment campaigns, and interacted with more than 100 candidates.
- Training and Induction: Making sure our new colleagues have the right skills and behaviours to deliver the services that matter to you. We’re really proud that tenants are now part of our induction process; meeting new colleagues, telling them about their experiences and what’s important to them as tenants.
- Performance Management: Reviewing the ways we make sure all our colleagues are putting tenants at the heart of everything we do. For example, at their next meeting, our involved tenants will be working with our Rewards Team to recognise staff members who have gone above and beyond in the services they deliver.
Why should I join this group?
My Team is a really exciting group which helps us make sure our staff are demonstrating the behaviours that make sure you’re treated fairly and with respect as one of our tenants. We want to make sure that our staff have the right skills, behaviours and knowledge to deliver effective services to you and are considering your needs in their decision making is incredibly important…and who better to help test this than our tenants themselves?
Don’t just take our word for it...
Hear from our staff, new starters and our involved tenants about how they found our new approach to inductions!
Susan Khan, Involved Tenant
“Having been involved with the scrutiny regarding recruitment, I have subsequently joined the team on two induction days.
I think these have been really useful for the new recruits as, almost unanimously, they said they have never worked for a HA that involves tenants as Midland Heart does. We were able to tell them the things we have been involved in and the changes we have subsequently seen made. The impact these things have made on satisfaction scores and a better insight into the way the business works with tenants and what is expected. It has also been useful for the tenants to see how the recruits react to these things.”
New starter:
“Having the opportunity to meet with some of our customers in the induction was like Midland Heart laying their cards out on the table. It gave us the chance to find out for ourselves that we really do put our tenants at the heart of what we do, it enabled transparent communication and really made it clear that they have a valued input in how we move forward.”
Helen Buckler, Head of Learning and Development, says:
“On the first day of the induction, we have a "Meet the Tenant" session which again was created and designed by our Involved Tenants. Similar to a fire side chat, tenants are invited to share their stories, tell our new colleagues what Midland Heart means to them, and most importantly discuss how our new colleagues can have a positive impact on our tenant experience through the roles they are going to undertake.”
Craig Knapper, Director of People says:
“Working directly with our tenants to shape our people practices is invaluable. It ensures colleagues truly understand our tenants expectations, and focusses colleagues on delivering the right outcomes — embedding the mindset that ensures tenants remain at the heart of everything we do”.
We would love for more of you to be part of this group and help us make sure we have the right colleagues for the job!
