Our My Scrutiny group recently completed a project on building safety to find out how well we’re engaging with you on building safety matters, if we’re meeting the legal requirements to consult with you, and how good our communication is.

Why building safety?

Your safety is always our priority and as well as being safe, it’s important that you also feel safe in your own home, with peace of mind.

As a social housing landlord, the Building Safety Regulator set outs requirements for how we engage with our tenants living in ‘in-scope’ buildings, which are buildings that are over 18 metres high.

With this in mind, we wanted to give our Scrutiny panel the opportunity to review and scrutinise our current engagement plans and share ideas on what we can do to improve our communication about building safety matters.

What we found

Over eight weeks,  we worked with a panel of tenants to look at more than 4,800 pieces of tenant feedback, including responses for our annual building safety survey, tenant satisfaction measures, satisfaction surveys, complaints and social media responses.

We also interviewed our colleagues in the Building Safety team, who updated us on how they currently keep you informed about building safety.

This data has helped us to get a better idea of what you think of how we communicate with you.

Our tenant panel made the following recommendations:

·       Improve tenant understanding of building safety, including what areas our Building Safety team cover and wider issues that will be picked up by our Estates or Tenancy Services teams

·       Improve access and remove engagement barriers through using new technology, such as interactive screens

·       Introduce a process for tracking and monitoring local engagement for teams

To share best practice from our ‘in-scope’ building engagement when working with other tenants on building safety matters

What happens next?

Over the next few months, we’ll be working closely with our Head of Building Safety and our Communications team to deliver these recommendations. We’ll be reporting back to our My Impact group on the impact of the changes made as a result of this review.

If you’d like to make an impact on our services and share your feedback on how we’re doing, you can join My Voice and become an Involved Tenant. Visit our website here for more information.
