How nature can support your wellbeing

Be it a park, communal garden or nature reserve, getting out and about in nature can help boost your emotional and mental wellbeing.

Communal gardening can help reduce isolation and stress by bringing neighbourhoods together over a shared purpose, giving you a reason to get outdoors and help create a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy. And the best thing about teaming up with others to create a relaxing shared space is the sense of accomplishment and pride you feel at the end.

That’s why we’ve introduced Pride in Place, an initiative for green-fingered residents who want to help create an enjoyable outdoor space for their community.

What is Pride in Place?

The Pride in Place initiative rewards communities who take time to look after their surrounding areas and improve it for all residents.

Here’s how it works:

1.      Nominate your community or scheme to win up to £250 in gardening e-vouchers by filling out this form. Give as much information as possible, and don’t forget to include a picture of the green space you’re applying for!

2.      Our panel of Involved Tenants will review the applications and pick winners each month. Winners will be announced on social media and informed by post.

3.      Use the vouchers to buy simple garden items like flowers, plants, compost, soil, and pots. You’ll need to keep all your purchase receipts safe and email them to us at feedback@midlandheart.org.uk.

4.      Around one month after you receive the vouchers, one of our friendly Estates Officers will drop by to take photographs of finished gardening projects and share the great work you’ve done!

How can I help improve my community green space?

Pride in Place celebrates the small changes that have a hugely positive impact on our neighbourhoods. Your gardening project could look like:

  • Potting some plants around a communal seating area that needs some love and care.
  • Putting up a few bright hanging baskets and a general tidy-up of a shared garden.
  • Adding a bird bath or feeder to a shared space to create an eye-catching feature.
