Looking for some support over the holidays? 

We know the summer holidays can be difficult. Trying to entertain the children and making sure they have enough to eat can feel like a full-time job and an extra financial burden.

To try and help in some way, we've pulled together lots of discounts, deals and holiday clubs that are available over the summer holidays that could come in useful. 

Across the UK

Restaurants and cafés
  • Asda: kids eat for £1 all day at Asda café all day, seven days a week (no adult spend required)
  • Sainsburys – kids eat for £1 at Sainsburys café with the purchase of adult hot main (minimum purchase to be £5.20), from 11:30am every day
  • Hungry Horse – Kids eat for £1 on Mondays
  • Morrisons – kids eat free when you purchase and adult meal of £5 or over, all day every day
  • Ikea – kids eat for 95p or £1.50. There’s no minimum spend, but it excludes Fridays
  • Dobbies garden centres - kids eat for free with any adult main meal order (costs between £8.95-£11.75)

Household Support Fund

The Household Support Fund is designed to help families that need it most, particularly those on low income. 

The fund is to support families to pay for food, utility bills, clothing and other essentials.

You can access relief through the Household Support Fund by applying directly to your council.

Simply Google Household Support Fund and the area you live in, and it will direct you to the correct page on your council's website.

Universal Credit for childcare

If you're on Universal Credit and also in work, you can claim back up to 85% of your childcare costs. This is up to a maximum of £1,014.63 for 1 child or £1,739.37 for 2 children.

You can claim just during school holidays, or on top of term time.

Local support and activities

Bring It On Brum

Bring It On Brum is a free Holiday Activity and Food Programme funded by the Department for Education, designed for children and young people who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals across Birmingham to have fulfilling, active and healthy school holidays.

A code will be sent by the school to any eligible parents, which you'll need to register for sessions.

Active Parks

Active Parks is a scheme for helping Birmingham residents get fit, get outside and get active!

If you live or work in Birmingham, you can get active for free. There are activities for every member of the family – from walks and rambles to running and cycling, Zumba to tai chi, gardening to bushcraft, and much, much more.

Coventry HAF

Through the Coventry HAF (Holiday Activity and Food Programme), there are over 150 free activities taking place during the Summer holidays (Monday 22nd July 2024 - Sunday 1st September 2024) with free food provided.

If your child is eligible, you should have received a code which you need to book on to the sessions.

There are loads of activities taking place in Coventry City Centre throughout the Summer to keep the kids entertained! 

From Dinosaurs to crafting, and pop-up golf to ice skating look no further for fun for the family.

Wolverhampton Young Opportunities

Wolverhampton Young Opportunities (a HAF programme) provides eligible children and young people with free holiday activities and food in the long school holidays. If your child receives free school meals, then they are eligible.

The council will be delivering HAF through a network of providers at a wide variety of venues across the city.

Staffordshire HAF

If your child is eligible, they can have up to 16 free places on the Staffordshire summer Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.

The programme includes a healthy meal with every place booked.

Leisure Centres across Staffordshire are putting on a host of sports-based activities over the summer holidays with lots of discounts on offer to encourage young people to get active.
