Meet our Operative, Stacey

Repairs 08/03/2024

Stacey Billington (2)

For International Women’s Day, we’ve spoken to one of our Operatives, Stacey, about what it’s like to work as a female colleague in our In-House Maintenance Team.

Hi Stacey, can you tell us about your time working with us and your typical day?

A typical day for me is never the same and in the short time I’ve worked here, I have found them to be inclusive and friendly. Some of the work I’m involved in includes installing vents into doors, tap replacements, unvented cylinder work, replacing immersion heater elements, and leaks under floorboards.

I’ve really enjoyed my time so far. We work from 8am – 5pm and usually have 5 jobs to complete a day…sometimes more if I have enough time!

What do you enjoy most about the role? What can be challenging?

I love meeting new people and all of the different characters you come across, no two jobs are the same. I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of my role and always keen to learn new things. The hardest part so far is the amount of time filling in forms and not knowing what jobs you have for the day ahead!

Are tenants or other colleagues surprised when they hear that you’re a female Operative?

Tenants are usually the ones surprised to find out that I am a female! I find that most tenants are really supportive and happy to hear of a woman working in the industry.

Is there any advice you’d give to other women who are interested in doing typically “male” jobs?

My advice would be to be brave, confident and be open to new challenges. Anyone can achieve anything as long as you put your mind to it!
