Now that we’re well and truly into the new year, there’s no better time to make the most of the dark nights in by turning your home into a cosy sanctuary. You don’t need a New Year’s resolution to feel good – just a few simple ways to stay snug and happy until spring! Read our roundup below of fun ideas to see you through to the next season.

Create your own winter sanctuary at home

Making your home feel snug is all about small changes without big spending. You don’t need new décor; instead try:

  • Lighting smaller lamps or safe LED candles to create a cosy mood.
  • Got extra blankets? Throw them over the sofa so they’re ready for a winter movie marathon.
  • Fancy doing some DIY, make your own draft excluder using old socks stuffed with fabric to keep the chill out.

Have fun at home with the kids

With the Feb half term around the corner, stop the kids getting restless with some fun indoor activities!

How about building an indoor fort followed by a picnic to spark their imagination? Gather all the cushions you can find and drape over a sheet to build a den in the living room. Cosy up under the den to spend the afternoon watching movies and eating their favourite snacks. Grab some books to read together or play a fun family game to keep everyone entertained.

Fancy an afternoon of arts and crafts at home? Check out these easy and fun crafty projects the kids (and you) will love, including making a bird feeder, a recipe book, flower pressing, and so much more.

Cook up comforting snacks to keep you warm

The winter months can feel tough but focusing on small moments that bring you joy can make it feel a little easier. And nothing makes us feel more joyful than a delicious treat!

  • Hot chocolate spoons: fun to make with all sorts of toppings, check out the easy recipe here and stir it into warm milk to enjoy.
  • Healthy berry crumble: fancy a comforting dessert that’s still healthy? Grab a handful of frozen berries and warm them up in a bowl. Add a few spoons of yoghurt and crush a digestive biscuit on top to create a calorie-friendly crumble.
  • 3-ingredient scones: all you need is self-raising flour, lemonade and full-fat cream to make these easy, delicious and fluffy scones at home. Check out the recipe here and enjoy them with your favourite toppings.

Enjoying your home during the cold, dark winter months with cosy indoor activities will not only help you to relax but also get you ready to be outside once the spring sunshine arrives!
