Moving home can be a stressful time, so we’ve put together this checklist to help you during your notice period:
Please make sure you:
- Complete any repairs that are your responsibility before you leave. If these are not completed, you will be charged for this work
- Remove all your belongings and leave your home clean and tidy
- Clear the garden, loft and any outbuildings
- Dispose of any rubbish and bulky items. If we need to remove anything after you leave, you will be charged
- Tell your electricity, gas and water suppliers that you are moving, provide final meter readings and give them your forwarding address. Please also let us know if you have any outstanding debt on your meters
- Inform your local authority’s Council Tax team that you are moving and provide a forwarding address
- If you receive any Housing Benefit or Universal credit, let them know when your tenancy will end and your forwarding address
- Arrange for your telephone and internet services to be disconnected
- Set up a redirect for your post
Important information about clearance charges
It’s really important that you leave your home clear of furniture and rubbish, and that any gardens are tidy and cut back. This helps the next tenant move in quickly and allows us to invest money into improving our homes rather than clearing waste.
If your property needs a full clearance after you leave, the average recharges (including labour costs) could be:
- 1 bedroom property: £1250
- 2 bedroom property: £1500
- 3 bedroom property: £1800
- 4 bedroom property: £2250
Need help disposing of items?
If you are unsure what to do with unwanted furniture or broken items, we have information about recycling centres and local council bulky waste services here:
You can also contact local charities to see if they can collect any items from you.
Need more time?
