Moving out can be a very busy time so we've out together a checklist to help make it as easy as possible. Have a look below to make sure you've done everything you need to before returning your keys.

Update you utility suppliers

We will now apply to transfer the gas and electricity supply for your property to our preferred supplier, Ovo. This process will take four weeks to change over and you can continue to use your existing supplier in the meantime.

You may receive a new gas and or electric meter card and key in the post which will be for the new tenant. Please place this in your kitchen drawer and this will be collected after you have left.

Let your current electricity, gas and water suppliers know you are moving, give them the meter readings and your forwarding address. Please let us know if you have any debt on your meters.

Remember to get your telephone and internet disconnected.

Update your details

Let the Council Tax team at your local authority know when you are moving and your forwarding address. If you receive any Housing Benefit or Universal credit, let them know when your tenancy will end and your forwarding address. You can also aarrange for royal mail to redirected any post to your new address for a fee.

Leave the property in a good condition

Please  make sure that your home and garden is left clean, tidy and free from any personal items and rubbish. This include removing carpets and bulky waste as well as emptying the loft and any outbuildings.

You'll also need to complete any repairs that have been identified as your responsibility before you leave. This includes returning any home improvements back to how they were when you moved in. Click here to view our repairs responsibility tool.

If you leave any damage, mess or items, you’ll be charged the cost of any necessary repairs or the removal of any items.

Return your keys

When you leave your home please put your keys in the key safe that has been fitted to your property. All your keys and fobs should be put in the key safe no later than 9am on the date we agreed with you.

If the keys are not in the key safe on this date, then we will charge you for changing the locks as well as charging you a weekly fee until we have access to the property.

If you wish to leave before the end of the notice period or tell us a key safe has not been fitted, then please email contact@midlandheart.org.uk  or call us on 0345 60 20 540 stating the full address of your home.
