Wiping Condesation

It’s really important to control condensation in your home during the winter months.

Colder temperatures make it harder for you to reduce moisture in your home which can lead to condensation. If you do not remove condensation it can lead to mould growth.

Mould is a fungus that will grow wherever there is moisture. Mould can appear as black pin pricks on walls, ceilings and furnishings and usually has a musty smell.

Here are some tips to help you reduce mould and condensation:

  • Do not dry your washing on radiators instead use a clothes horse away from the radiators.
  • Use a lid to cover pots when you’re cooking.
  • Close doors to prevent steam escaping into other rooms
  • Open windows in your kitchen and bathroom to let the steam out. Use extractor fans if you have them.
  • Leave trickle vents on windows open.
  • Leave your air vents uncovered.
  • Keep your home warm but ventilated.
  • Wipe condensation off your windows with a fungicidal solution. Make sure to wear gloves.
