Loud and proud at Birmingham Pride
Parading the streets of Birmingham over the bank holiday weekend, our colleagues joined this year’s Pride festivities, bringing the LGBTQ and wider community together in a rainbow of colour, culture and cheer.
‘Wearing our heart with Pride’ was our message for the second year running as members of staff and volunteers celebrated on our very own float amongst many other local businesses, community groups and charities.
Ruby Khakh, Diversity Business Partner, said: ‘Our presence at Birmingham Pride is hugely important to us. Being part of the largest Pride event in the UK helps us to celebrate inclusion with colleagues, customers and our wider community. This year was even more significant to us, as we recently launched our very own LGBT+ Network. It was great to see so many colleagues so passionate about wearing their hearts with Pride on our float at this year’s event.’
This is the eighth year that we have taken part in the parade and leading on our involvement on the day was Team Leader and Chair of our LGBT+ network, Mel Kingsbury.
Mel said: ‘Wow, what a day! I am so very proud of everybody that attended, we were certainly loud and proud. I can’t wait to do it all again next year, although I'm not sure how we can top this year!’
Birmingham Pride is in its 23rd year and this year the theme was ‘Love out Loud’. 2019 also marks 50 years of Pride.
