Eid The Snowhill 1

Customers and staff at one of our Supported Living schemes celebrated Eid by enjoying traditional music and food.

Eid was on Thursday 13th May, however they celebrated at The Snowhill in Birmingham on Tuesday 18 May. This was so they could host the event safely indoors whilst still following Covid guidelines.

As part of the celebrations customers and staff decorated the scheme with balloons, banners and Islamic symbols. They also created a display in their reception area which shared the history and traditions of the religious festival.

Residents were invited to learn more about Eid

Angela Peck, Senior Independent Living Officer at the scheme said "Many of our customers and colleagues observe Ramadan and Eid, so it’s great that we could come together and celebrate in a safe way."

"It was also good for residents and staff who don’t celebrate this holiday, as it was an opportunity to learn more about it."

“No celebration at The Snowhill is complete without food, and so we enjoyed a delicious feast of samosas, pakoras, curry and more. There was even a little dancing – all socially distanced of course – and it was great to see customers chatting and connecting after months in lockdown.”

Sharing an important celebration

Independent Living Officers Nadira Begum and Kumba Joof, along with Intense Housing Officer Olumuyiwa Olukoya, were amongst the team who helped organise the celebration.

Olu said: “I felt proud to be able to share my culture and traditions with everyone at The Snowhill. It’s great to showcase how diverse our colleagues and customers are and I would like to thank everyone who got involved.”

Customer Batoul added: “I really enjoyed decorating the building with other customers and staff and it was nice to have the opportunity to share my traditions and culture.”
