Hail Sir Geoffrey!

Children from our housing development at Shoemaker Court, Rushden, got to meet a locust-loving Syrian Hamster called Sir Geoffrey when they took part in a special activity session.

The event at the nearby Pets At Home store aimed to give youngsters the opportunity to find out about the joys and responsibilities of owning a small and cute furry pet.

The children got to meet, handle and feed different types of hamsters, rats and a baby rabbit, before taking home a gift box containing sweets and colouring.

Support worker Nicola Devonport said: “The store’s resident Syrian hamster Sir Geoffrey was the firm favourite and was happily passed around the group for a cuddle and a treat.

“Staff at the store were very knowledgeable about the different animals and explained all about their care as well as their eating habits. This included the gruesome fact that Syrian hamsters like to dine on headless locusts!”
